Support the vital work of the Animal Humane Society

As you all know, I recently moved to Minneapolis to follow my partner who accepted a position at Target Headquarters. While a blissful life of watching tivo and eating pizza all day did have some appeal, the unemployed life didn't seem to suit my style all that well. So I started the job hunt and really focused on the things that inspired me. When I saw the position in Donor Relations pop up for the Animal Humane Society, I knew I just had to apply for it. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
I am incredibly proud to say that I'm now a part of this wonderful organization. AHS serves over 36,000 animals each year in our five shelter locations across the Minneapolis/St Paul metro area. We are an open admission facility - no animal is turned away. Every animal that gets adopted through us is spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and evaluated for temperament and health conditions. We take active roles in the community offering pet training classes, pet behavior help lines, pet loss support groups, therapy animal training, animal rescue and investigation, and lost and found services. There is just so much good work that goes on every day, it really makes coming to work such a joy.
I think one of my favorite parts of the job though is seeing how quickly the animals get adopted. I make it a point to swing by the dog kennels at least once or twice a day and it's so amazing to see first hand that most of them get adopted within 2-3 days. Sometimes I'll fall in love with a cute pup and it'll get adopted before I can even send the its website link to Scott for him to look at. I've seen so many success stories in just the small amount of time I've been here. And as cheesy as this sounds, not only has AHS found homes for so many animals - but it's also helped me to feel at home in this strange new city of Minneapolis.
