My black lab (Hannah) was a rescue from a puppy mill in Jackson County. She was one of 60 dogs rescued. They were in terrible conditions and her picture on the Humane Society website was so sad I had to rescue her. My husband and I stopped to see her last year after the walk. She was so frightened of everyone and everything! We knew she would need a LOT of love and patience. We went back after one week and adopted her. She was so afraid she wouldn't eat or drink anything for 2 days. I had to coax her out of the kennel to go outside. We have now had her for almost a year (May 11) and what a joy she has been to our lives. She is so smart, loves to go for car rides and walks and wants to play with every dog she sees. She is still afraid of people but has made such great progress. My husband and I will be participating in the Animal Humane Society's 2008 Walk for Animals again this year. With five Twin Cities locations, they care for more than 36,000 unwanted, abused and neglected animals each year.
